Sometimes I am reluctant to go out for Mexican food, because my partner and I are pretty good at making it at home. For La Choza, I will break that rule.
La Choza is a vibrant Mexican street food restaurant that began on Gloucester Road in Brighton’s North Laine. In 2017 they opened a second location on Western Road, less than 5 minutes from my doorstep! The new location came with a cocktail bar and an expanded menu of authentic Mexican delights. The venues are interior GOALS – bright art, neon lights, and flowers adorn the walls. Admittedly I was a little hungover on our visit, but I knew the food would heal me and ohhh boy did it.
First up, we had a bowl of nachos to share. The portion size is just right – there’s nothing worse than a tiny plate of nachos arriving when you’re sharing! There was plenty of topping to go around as well, lots of cheese and refried beans. I avoided the chillies because I’m a wimp but my partner said they were tasty.
I opted for chicken and chorizo enchiladas for my main. When the food arrived it looked delicious, but I was sceptical as to whether it would actually fill me up (I was hungover okay!). Oh how wrong I was. It was so filling – packed with cheese and sour cream which perfectly complimented the flavour of the chorizo. It was so so tasty and exactly what I needed. It perked me right up!
The food was packed with flavour and the portions were perfect. A great shout for a hangover cure. Maybe next time I’ll try one of their cocktails as hair of the dog! Plus it’s a great place to go with friends in the evening. I’m craving the enchiladas again just writing this post…
