July was a SUPER busy month for me – it felt like it lasted forever but at the same time, it went by in a blur. Here’s what I got up to!
60th Birthday meal at The Kitchen
A lot of my July revolved around my Dad’s 60th birthday and retirement. We kicked of the celebrations at The Kitchen, a restaurant that’s part of the Chewton Glen hotel. We started with cocktails – I had pink gin, which I surprisingly loved considering I don’t usually like gin that much.
For mains I had the Homemade Trenchmore Wagyu beef burger with BBQ brisket with onion rings, Monterey Jack and Dijon mayonnaise. It was INSANE. Absolutely huge and hard to eat but in the best way. At the end of the meal, our lovely waitress bought out a little cake with a birthday message for my dad which was super cute. If you’re looking for a special place for a meal, I would definitely recommend the Kitchen.
60th Birthday Party & Primark dress
The second lot of celebrations for my Dad’s birthday was a big party for friends and family at our local rugby club. I wanted to find something new to wear, but I struggled a lot as it was in the middle of the heatwave and I’m fussy about clothes. Then, after seeing it on lots of people’s Instagram pages, I found this rainbow dress in Primark. OBSESSED. It’s super flattering and comfortable, beautiful colours and I’m so happy I found it. Here I am wearing it in these snaps with my best pals and my partner.
Brainchild
For the last 3 years, I’ve worked as the Social Media Officer at a festival in Sussex called Brainchild.
It’s a three day festival that celebrates DIY spirit, art, music and new ideas. With collectives, communities and creative projects, the lineup features live music, jam sessions, spoken work, DJ sets, talks, workshops, film, theatre and installation art. It’s entirely volunteer-powered and is non-for-profit.
Taking place on a beaaautiful warm weekend in July, my third Brainchild as a staff member was WONDERFUL. I met so many amazing people and saw lots of inspiring musicians, artists, poets and more. I had such a lovely time with old pals from school, uni and even my parents in attendance. Brainchild fills my heart with love and joy for music and art, and I’m so thankful to be a part of it all.
Disneyland Paris
Yet another celebration for my Dad’s 60th Birthday! He decided he wanted to spread the celebrations over the entire month, even spilling a little into August. So we went to Disneyland Paris! We decided it would be funny to get t-shirts made, kind of like a stag or hen do. I got an old photo of my dad as a child and photoshopped Mickey Mouse ears onto it, and put our schedule for the trip on the back. We had so many people ask questions about them!
I haven’t been to Disneyland Paris since I was about 18 so quite a lot had changed and been updated, and I LOVED IT. I wouldn’t go back in a hurry because I think it’ll be a couple of years until new things open, but when they do I would love to go back!
And so ends one of the busiest months of my life! It’s been amazing celebrating my Dad’s birthday and seeing so many of my friends and family in one month. If you need me in August, I’ll be on the beach or on the sofa.
